TRAFFIC STOP: Officers on patrol on 19th Street at about 12:20 a.m. Tuesday observed a vehicle operating with plates that showed invalid. Tyquell Smith, 28, of 2213 LaSalle Ave. was charged with operating an unregistered vehicle, aggravated unlicensed operation, no inspection, suspended registration, no insurance and improper plates.
SHOPLIFTER: An officer moonlighting as a Walmart security guard at about 1:40 p.m. Saturday was alerted to a recently terminated employee allegedly attempting to leave without paying for a case of beer valued at $22.40. Devalin Swearengen, 23, of 6006 Frontier Ave. was charged with petit larceny.
TRAFFIC STOP: Officers patrolling on 8th Street at about 11:45 a.m. Saturday observed a car failure to signal and ran the plates. Bobby Cox, no age or address available, was charged with illegal signal and no insurance.
ROBBERY: Three males jumped a customer at Valero on Ferry Avenue, attempting to take items from him and punching him in the face at about 5:14 p.m. Saturday. Police responded to the scene and found the suspect trio in the alley. A chase ensued. Deon Cleveland, 18, of Grand Island was caught and charged with robbery aided by another, robbery 1st using a dangerous instrument, menacing 3rd and harassment.
STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERED: Officers on patrol in the tourist district on the Friday/Saturday overnight observed a Ford van that came back as stolen. The occupant, Ashley Mitchell, 28, of Dover, Del. told police she had extended the rental agreement for the van valued at $47,000 and was homeless and helping with a cross-country move. She was arrested on a charge of criminal possession of stolen property.
