There was a lot of love at Kalfas School Thursday. The Express stopped by to see the Bridge Niagara annual turkey giveaway. More than 500 families benefitted.
It was a community health fair of sorts, and a love fest. That’s a Niagara Falls thing where well meaning people, whether County Legislator Jeffrey Elder or Highway Superintendent Kenny Tompkins show up, support and volunteer.
Tompkins came to hand out turkeys and somehow ended up directing traffic because drivers were entitled on Beech Avenue. The police showed up to direct traffic as well.
The Niagara County Health Department was there to educate people about heroin overdoses, Narcan and how to use free kits they were distributing.
Nasir Khan, president and Qasid Nasir, Missionary, of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community at 9610 Colvin Blvd. in Niagara Falls were there watching, helping and living the mission of their mosque.
Nasir said the goal is to bring communities together and find common ground among all people. He wore an “I love Mohammed” hat and said he was here until he is called to serve elsewhere. He has also spent time in Pittsburgh.
