Friday night we went to Gadawski’s for dinner and then Wagon Wheel to see Nolan Curtis and Station Wagon play mostly original rock and roll.
The band is excellent, with tight sound, nothing overdone or forced with Curtis on vocals and guitar backed by the bass and drums of Marshall Oldham and Dan Pilon.
After, chatting with Curtis, he spoke about his love of living in Niagara Falls because housing is inexpensive and everything is close together and the joy of being able to play original music for an appreciative audience.
It’s not just having 3 state parks and the gorge within a 10-minute walk of home but having anything we need within a 10-minute drive or less.
The thing is, most everything is a short bike ride away. We might need to go all the way to Lewiston for a pharmacy or Dimino Tops but DeCammillo’s is a 4-minute drive (6 minutes by bike.) Ditto great food at Mister B’s or Mister M’s or Simply Soul or Wine on Third or the Red Coach.
Going to the Factory Outlet Mall used to be a yearly adventure best undertaken around Christmas. We don’t shop that much but it is 5 minutes away.
Talking about it with Curtis put it all in perspective.
