Council meets tonight
There is a Niagara Falls Council meeting Wednesday at 6 p.m..
Councilperson Donta Myles is bringing forth agenda items again, including requesting support for Beech Avenue Park.
More rancor between Myles and acting Corporation Counsel Thomas DeBoy is assured.
Beech Avenue Park, long planned and never built, is supported by Myles as a much-needed addition to city parks but is only supported by Councilmember Brian Archie. Councilpersons Traci Bax, Jim Perry and David Zajac have not supported the development.
The question appears to be funding -- while the community feels the park is needed, the city has trouble maintaining the parks it already has.
Myles has been at odds with DeBoy who has become the face of the administration in council meetings, taking an outsized role in answering questions for the absent executive branch and also functioning as parliamentarian, advising council chairperson Jim Perry on Robert’s Rules.
Myles also attempted to submit an additional resolution requesting Perry resign from his role as chairman. DeBoy rejected it as a violation of Robert’s Rules and the city charter.
Ditto a Myles resolution requesting outside counsel be available to the city council because DeBoy works at the pleasure of the executive branch, not the legislature.
The meeting will also include a council vote on amending the zoning laws to restrict student housing in DeVeaux.
