The Turtle building in Niagara Falls received a new coat of beige paint last week.
The architecturally significant building had peeling paint and plants in the gutters.
It is owned by Niagara Falls Development. The Niagara Falls Historic Preservation Commission last winter attempted give the building a historic preservation designation.
NFR argued the building, designed by indigenous architect Dennis Sun Rhodes, was neither old enough for the designation nor significant enough.
The Niagara Falls City Council held a meeting on the matter and declined to recommendation but never actually discussed whether it was worthy of the designation, instead turning it into a discussion of property rights and whether the preservation designation should exist.
Moderate snow, with a high of 25 and low of 19 degrees. Don't forget your umbrella! Overcast in the morning, light freezing rain overnight.
no story either?
Unfortunately with the mayor we have, the prospects of true revitalization of Main Street, Pine Avenue is slim to none. There's money to do it but no transparency and accountability ...just my thoughts
The key to both Main and Pine Avenue is having objective 3rd parties involved. It quells my skepticism but just a bit.
I agree with everything Amy said
