Magic at the NACC

Oh sure, you know there was magic happening at the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center. You’ve been to Starry Night Cafe and had a killer lunch. It’s our favorite date place.

But wait, there’s more.

Leon Etienne and his assistant Chelsea have taken up residence for the summer, hoping to bring magic to the masses, host summer camps and find a more relaxing existence.

Etienne and his lovely assistant hosted their first Niagara Falls Show on the 3rd Floor of the NACC Thursday night.

Etienne is performing in the Box Theatre at 7 p.m. Saturday’s and 3 p.m. Sunday’s through July. Tickets are $25 and available at www.nfmagic.com. It is the sort of show I would expect to pay $60 for at Shea’s or the Rapids Theater or $150 in Vegas.

His show will average about 90 minutes. It included 9 separate tricks Thursday.

The NACC hosted a reception and preview show for tourism professionals prior to the show.

Etienne grew up in the Utica area. His parents gave him a magic kit as a boy. It became his craft.

He does tricks I have never seen up front.

A hidden card trick used Sharon Bailey as a foil. She put a card in her back pocket. He elaborately drew a card on a pad. It was an ace. Only it wasn’t. The card rose on the paper. You need to see it to believe it. I can't begin to understand how he did it.

He also cuts Chelsea in half, steals a diamond ring, does some fantastic card tricks and escapes from a straightjacket.

Buy tickets. And thank you to Patrick Keyes and Rainbow Air for giving Beth and I a chance to attend. The event was filled with lots of the professional chamber types and hotel people and fewer rank-and-file tour guides.

Etienne hopes to grow his audience and move to a bigger theater in the NACC building as the word spreads.
