Second look at Packard Court kerfuffle

Wednesday night the Niagara Falls City Council heard a storm of protest from employees, families and beneficiaries of the Packard Court Community Center, a fixture led by Samika Sullivan that brings hope and a future to youths.

The city administration has reportedly proposed cutting community development block funding for the community center.

Only it may not be so.

There were apparently block grant funds allocated last year that went unused. When that happens, the city typically pulls the funds back the next year.

Packard Court gives hope, joy and structure to youths who too often have none. While cutting funding would be an affront to the community akin to when funding for the outreach worker position held by Donta Myles was cut a few years ago in a blatant partisan political move, this may be different.

Only Myles spoke about the meaningful contributions of Packard Court from the dais. Council Chairperson Jim Perry attempted to silence Myles. It may have been because Dante didn’t know the whole story.
