Why does my National Grid check go to Pittsburgh?

The first of the month I do several things, one of which is to pay my electric bill. Today I became aware that I was paying a bill to a company that is based in Pittsburgh, Pa. How could that be? This is New York. We have a power plant. Many have said, “We should have demanded free power during the power project.”

I conducted research on Google, Wikipedia, and other resources after calling in and speaking with a customer service representative who had no knowledge about it. Here is what I found:

National Grid is a British multinational electricity and gas utility company that operates in the United Kingdom and the northeastern United States. The company has its headquarters in London, UK, and Wokingham, UK. National Grid’s US operations are headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts, and Syracuse, New York.

The Robert Moses Niagara Hydroelectric Power Station is a hydroelectric power station located in Lewiston, New York, near Niagara Falls. It is owned and operated by the New York Power Authority (NYPA) and uses 13 generators at an installed capacity of 2,525 MW (3,386,000 HP) 2. The Schoellkopf Power Station was built on land owned by Jacob F. Schoellkopf above the Niagara Gorge near the American Falls, 1,600 feet downriver from Rainbow Bridge.

State Sen. Tim Kennedy, our likely next House Representative, last session in Albany entered a resolution to rename the Power Plant because Moses was a horrible human being. It failed.
