It might be the last worthwhile show at the Rapids until further notice.
Maria Aurigema opening for Popa Chubby Saturday night, the only Anita West show currently on the calendar. Limited tickets are still available.
Chubby will play Hendrix tributes and some covers as well as his own music.
Looking at recent setlists from Chubby recent shows, he’s all over the place but you can probably count on “Hey Joe” and “The Sky is Crying.”
Sometime in the first half of 2024 the state’s covid-era pause on foreclosures ends. The theater was restored years ago by John Hutchins who is still believed to still be the owner but maintenance has been deferred since restoration in 2009. Hutchins assets are on shaky ground because of federal charges for payroll protection plan fraud involving him and his bookkeeper.
Back taxes are owed on the theater but because of the federal charges it is uncertain which lienholder takes priority.
As of a few weeks ago, there were still 10 or 12 upcoming shows listed at www.rapidstheatre.com but the site is no longer available.
