Waterfront revitalization meeting Wednesday
The first Niagara Falls Local Waterfront Revitalization Program public meeting will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 29, at the Niagara Falls Train Station, at 825 Depot Ave. The public is encouraged to drop-in between 5 and 7 p.m. to participate in an interactive open house.
Almost all the waterfront in Niagara Falls is owned by New York State and generates no revenue for the city.
A formal presentation at 5:30 pm that will provide an overview of the LWRP program and how the community of Niagara Falls can stay involved in the planning process.
Participants will be asked to provide input on issues related to the city’s ongoing LWRP including economic development, waterfront access, the environment, and recreational opportunities.
The initiative led by the City of Niagara Falls, in partnership with the NYS Department of State, will explore how to develop the city’s waterfront resources in a sustainable manner, with a focus on strengthening tourism, economic development, and protection of natural resources and cultural assets.
Building upon previous planning and economic development efforts, including the recent removal of a portion of the Niagara Scenic Parkway (formerly Robert Moses Parkway), the Niagara Waterfront Brownfield Opportunity Area, and the Main Street Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI).
The LWRP will define a vision for lands along the Niagara River, Cayuga Creek, and Gill Creek. The LWRP will also help identify specific projects for future grant funding requests.
For those unable to attend the public meeting, an online survey has been created to collect input for the LWRP. The survey will be open until December 31, 2023, and is posted at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/niagarafallslwrp.
