As the staff, and circulation declines, and there is no Niagara County coverage, I am hesitant to renew. Still, I like sports and look to Samantha Christmann, Andrew Galarneau, Steve Watson and others.
Sitting in my bills-to-be-paid pile is a renewal notice. They want $335.88 for a year of digital access. $1,014 gets home delivery for the year. $624 gets Sunday only home delivery.
This for a paper that has halved its staff, outsourced page design and soon will be printing in Cleveland. It is a shell of it's former self and last won a Pulitzer for any kind of writing before I was born.

I called the News circ number to protest and got a nice woman named Mary from the Philippines.
She knocked $100 off the price and I signed up for a year. She caved so easily I was left wondering if she would have gone lower.
It felt like a call with Spectrum where they just keep caving because they don’t want to lose your business. The major difference is at least that call center is local.
