James Starks was inducted in the Niagara Falls High School Hall of Fame Thursday night.
As friends and family packed the school board meeting, the University at Buffalo graduate and Super Bowl champion reflected good nature and humble gratitude.
“It is just a blessing,” Starks said. “I always tell myself it is about hope. That’s what I am here for.
“I am where I am because of my city, because of my people.”
Starks said his favorite moment was seeing his grandmother, a huge football fan, at the Super Bowl.
His roots go back to Cataract Little League.
“I was the youngest boy out there,” he said. “They wanted to kill me but I was just juking.”
He was honored at UB Friday night.
