The World According to Bob

(Editor's note: Each week, Niagara Falls Mayor Robert Restaino issues an edict from his throne, letting his minions know how he believes they have been doing. The Express, as time permits, transcribes it. Here is this week’s effort, word-for-word, from Youtube.)

Today is Columbus Day

And some things I'd like to share with you, first of all, at the top of all of this, Monday is a holiday, and so City Hall will be closed for business.

So if you're getting this information before the end of today, please make sure that you have business here, that you remember either it's going to be conducted today by 4 p. m. or City Hall will open again on Tuesday.

So please remember, again, Monday the City Hall will be closed for the holiday. We have a couple of things coming up, too.

Get your text alerts

If you're on the text alert system, remember that is texting the word resident to 716-325-5723. 716-325-5723. Text the word resident to that number, and you'll become a part of our text alert system. And the reason why I'm saying that is because there are a number of things that will be sent out on that system, right? First and foremost, our police department will be having a Halloween night on Friday, Oct. 23rd.

It'll be from 5 p. m. to 7 p.m. right at the police station at 1925 Main St. Treats and a number of other things that will be out there. So remember that it's Friday, October 23rd from 5 to 7 at the police station.

Our Youth and Senior Services Department will be hosting a trunk or treat at the Sal Maglie parking lot on Hyde Park Boulevard that will be on Saturday, Oct. 24th from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Pass it on so that there can be some great participation in both of these events. While we're on the topic of Halloween, we will shortly be putting out the information that Halloween's on a Saturday this year, so still we're going to set official times for trick-or-treating on Saturday the 31st from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Halloween, Saturday, Oct. 31.

In addition to all of this, obviously there are a number of events that are going on all throughout the city. Again, please stay alert to the text alert systems for us to provide information on all of those things. We also are hoping that this weekend, being a holiday weekend, and I know that I repeat myself over and over again, but let's try to make sure that we have a safe weekend.

It's really, again, it's all of our concern to make sure that traffic and safety on the streets is important to all of us. So let's try to get to this weekend and through this weekend without having any incidents.

Moving forward with Main Street

We continue to move forward with our development on Main Street. There will be an event on Main Street announcing some further development on October 22nd from noon until 2 at the location 2018 Main St.

So if you're interested in learning a little bit more about what's happening on Main Street, please come on down and you'll hear a little bit more about some of the further developments that are happening on Main Street. We're pretty excited about the revitalization of our Main Street. So again, that's October 22nd from noon until 2.

One more reminder

Again, if you are on the text alert system, great. If you are not and you're getting this message, please remember, text the word RESIDENT to 716-325-5723.

You'll join the text alert system, and you'll learn about all kinds of things. You might even learn about the fact that our ladies' high school volleyball team are world champions because they're having a great season. So, again, make sure that you get out and support them as well. But really do, please, if you haven't joined the text alert system, please join. It'll provide you with all the information that we receive here at City Hall as quickly as your phone can get it.

Now, you don't have to have a smartphone. If your phone receives texts in any format, you can join the system. So again, that system number, text the word resident to 716-325-5723. Remember, City Hall will be closed on Monday, and there are a number of activities coming up, so please be on the lookout for all that information and I look forward to talking to you again next week.
