Short Take Politics:
Remember that Nick Shirley video?
Oh sure, “hundreds of millions in fraud” and yet, the provocateur, Nick Shirley, was completely discredited. No arrests. No fraud found. Just the attention of our President an an excuse for ICE to cause chaos in Minnesota. Is this how we make America great again? I am hoping Scott R. Medole can clarify what we missed other than hundreds of millions spent on a spectacle created for Fox cable. https://19thnews.org/2026/01/child-care-fraud-minnesota-fact-check/
Russians are suffering too
It’s not just the United States where trade wars have resulted in a crisis of affordability and all families are kicking in. We are paying the Trump tax on most of what we purchase. Things are hard in Mother Russia, too, where comrade Putin pushes on with his plan to rebuild the USSR. Putin knows he has an asset in the White House who is punishing his own people and will allow Russia to do what she wants with impunity. https://apnews.com/article/russia-war-economy-taxes-ukraine-putin-aa58356ff3c5cf04c5dbf795dddfb90f
State of the Union tonight
I think “Crisis? What Crisis?” was a Supertramp album. His poll numbers are the lowest they have ever been. His rants are increasingly off-kilter, at best delusional. Economic numbers are in shambles as the “America First” President randomly taxes us and unites with Third World dictators. Meanwhile, Canada and Europe have united against us and joined forces with China. Tonight, the President takes to the stage and either salvages his legacy or, more likely, rants and raves like a crazed old man shaking his fist at the clouds. Why does this feel like a perpetual, dark Simpson’s episode trapped inside a Green Day song? Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger will attempt to salvage hope after our dear leader rants. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/02/24/us/politics/trump-popularity-agenda-state-of-the-union.html?unlocked_article_code=1.OlA.mSps.bYwdjV9FOxwl&smid=url-share
