SHOPLIFTING: Police were called to Portage Road Family Dollar General at 1 p.m. Saturday for a report of a shoplifter. A black male in a maroon hoodie was reported to have run out a back door with a case of Red Bull and pedaled off on a red bike on Haeberle Place. Police chased the suspect through backyards toward Oakwood Cemetery. He ditched clothing as he ran but was carrying a maroon hoodie when caught. He gave police multiple false names. Eventually, police identified who he was and he admitted it, telling them he was afraid he had outstanding warrants. He was charged with criminal impersonation and petit larceny.

DWI: At 11:55 p.m. Friday, police were called to 56th and Frontier for a report of a crash. They found a 56th Street resident behind the wheel with airbags deployed after a collision with a utility pole. The suspect was conscious but uncooperative. The suspect was transported to the hospital, refused field sobriety or breath alcohol tests, and was charged with speed not reasonable or prudent, drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle, failure to use designated lane and driving while intoxicated first offense.

SEX OFFENDER: Police went to a 25th Street address last Thursday and arrested a sex offender for failure to inform of his new address.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF: Police were called to a 23rd Street address at 6:45 a.m. Monday for an instance of criminal mischief. A woman smashed several windows and entered a dwelling looking for stolen credit cards she did not find. The suspect was charged with criminal mischief.

EVICTION: Police assisted a city marshall with an eviction on Townsend Place at 11:10 a.m. Monday. The tenant was given 10 minutes to vacate. He took too long. Police charged him with criminal trespass.

CAR POPPERS BUSTED: Officers investigating 3rd Street and the vicinity burglaries near the Sheraton at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday sitting in a parking lot. Asked what they were doing, one suspect said trying to charge his phone. The other offered no explanation. Police observed a glass pipe used for smoking narcotics in the pocket of one suspect and also 4 knives, 2 flashlights and 3 screw drivers often used in vehicle break ins. Multiple credit cards from recent larcenies were recovered. The suspects were charged with possession of burglar tools. Other charges may be pending.

HOMELESS: A man accused of stealing $91.45 in goods from Dollar Tree gave himself up as he pushed a cart down Haeberle. “I’m not going to run” he said. “I am homeless and I wanted to be caught.” The incident occurred at 5:18 p.m. Tuesday.
