Welcoming a new venture

Andrea Megan asked me, as Niagara Express publisher, to become an administrator for Niagara Falls Uncensored.

I accepted her invitation. The page has more than 5,000 followers. That likely means you might be reading my version of journalism here more frequently.

Here’s the gig. I have more than 20 years experience as a journalist. On the day of the Bills/Chiefs John Celestino, who has since taken his own life, hired me as Regional News Editor at the Niagara Gazette.

I have always believed a journalist, covering a community, should live in the community. I was committed to the Gazette. So much so that when my wife Beth suggested we sell our home in Clarence, in Erie County, where we had lived for 30 years, and move to Niagara Falls, I agreed it was a good idea.

We sold our house, moved to the Falls and never looked back. Today, there are 3 working journalists living here, me, Ken Cosentino and Mark Scheer. Andrew Galarneau is here as well and focuses on food.

Mark took my job at the Gazette. He did not know he was replacing me until he showed up at work after being rehired.

Cosentino is a dedicated advocate for Niagara Falls as well as an acclaimed filmmaker, screenwriter and journalist.

Ken’s work will appear here when he chooses to share it. When there is anything meaningful that appears in the Gazette, I will share that as well. As long as Lori Jo Pellow is allowed to share Mark’s journalism or what the Mayor dictates to Rick Pfeiffer, I will cut and paste that as well.

I don’t believe in paywalls or supporting the Alabama State Teacher’s Retirement fund. Community Newspapers Holding Incorporated deserves to be bankrupt.

Eventually, the Gazette will finish its long, slow death spiral. We will also get a city administration that speaks positively about the entire city and its people.

Real estate values will recover after Shredd and Ragan no longer trash the city once a week with police reports sent by the paper.

Through it all, we will still be here, sharing good vibes and supporting those who believe in a brighter future.
