Light agenda for council

Tonight’s city council agenda looks relatively light with a public hearings on rezoning a 4th Street parcel and abandoning a portion of 88th Street.

One thing not included on the agenda is retaking a portion of 13th Street former parkland from Niagara Falls Redevelopment.

Mayor Robert Restaino in his weekly address last Friday mentioned the parcel including the 13th Street gym was not appropriately alienated in 2004 before transfer to NFR.

The implication is that it would be cheaper to retake the property by reversing that legal process because it was never appropriately alienated than it would be to take it via eminent domain.

Restaino wants the parcel to facilitate construction of Centennial Park. The city recently used the alienation process to turn over a portion of Buffalo Avenue Park, which was wrecked by Robert Moses Parkway to facilitate hotel expansion.

It is uncertain what sort of zoning change of alienation might be needed to facilitate the planned dog shelter in Hyde Park.
