Thoughts on Cooking from Dave Eddy
By Dave Eddy
Special to the Express
I generally enjoy cooking.
Not everyday though.
Not even 3 days a week.
I “Enjoy” cooking about every fortnight.
I “enjoy” baking when I bake, about once a month..
But as y'all know. Sometimes dinner is: Frozen pizza
Soup and grilled cheese
Rotisserie chicken
Leftovers in the microwave
Frozen burritos with rice and black beans
“Follow me for more recipe ideas”
Waffles
El Paso tacos out of a box
Tuna Helper
Frozen pot pies
Perogies….
But I have never ever made a frozen dinner! On an aluminum tray. The frozen parts have been a la carte.
So there i was in Tops looking at hot dogs and hamburger meat and saw some really thick cut pork chops…
Idea, stuffed pork chops!! We rarely have pork because it's bland and ends up dried out and pigs are cute.
I start looking for Stuffed pork chops recipes and I come across one that opens:
Here's a stuffed pork chop recipe that my husband really loves!!
Okay, so your husband is a food critic now?
I'm guessing if your husband is anything like me he enjoys Fat, proteins, starch, less talk and more oral sex.
Cooking dinner is apparently still women's work.
Another recipe for chicken that keeps showing up is boneless chicken tenders basted in a tomato sauce, it's called Marry Me Chicken….
It hits all the high notes: meat, tomato, onions, garlic and oil….
And if it's on the table by 6 p.m. you'll get yourself wedded for sure.
Or you could make lasagna a few times a year, make Galumpkis, and then capture a man that way. It takes less planning and less time.
Making dinner though requires planning, intent, consideration, scheduling. Dietary considerations…medical interactions, peanut and wheat allergies…
Making dinner is a gesture, an offering.
“Can we sit together and partake this thing I've made for you?”
We can talk and visit and imbibe and stare into each other's eyes
It's almost as good as oral sex.
Ice cream for dessert?
