Bail reform and raise the age: Good or bad?

It’s all about giving hope where there is none. For Trent Hamilton and the School of Entrepreneur Thought, “raise the age” and bail reform are making a meaningful difference.

Raise the age allows judges to show discretion in treating young people as youthful offenders. Bail reform allows the release of those accused with low-level felonies without bail.

The limits the role of poverty in pretrial incarceration.

Since these reforms were put in place, violent crom outside New York City had declined.

Sheriff Mike Filicetti sees it differently because he thinks the reforms have removed a crime deterrent. Someone considering a crime is more likely to commit it if they know they won’t be locked up.

Filicetti would like judges to have more latitude to set bail or let someone go. https://spectrumlocalnews.com/nys/buffalo/news/2024/06/07/striking-a-ba…
