More than a year ago, the Niagara River Greenway Standing Committee Commission met and approved funding to extend the Crows News from the Maid of the Mist dock to Prospect Point via newly constructed stairs.
The cost of the projected work was $6 million. Bids came in higher than expected. The committee is not set to meet again to discuss a request for an additional $1 million from the land and water conservation fund. In addition, the project is receiving $3.5 million in the 2024-25 State budget and $1 million from the Maid of the Mist.
The difficulty is building an appropriate staircase akin to those at Whirlpool and Devil’s Hole is challenging compared to constructing something cheaper and less appropriate.
The meeting of the committee will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 11 at the Castellani building at DeVeaux Woods.
