GIving Tuesday makes a difference

Giving Tuesday with Community Missions

“Giving Tuesday” fits right in sequence after Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday.

I never liked shopping on “Black Friday,” the crowds, nastiness and plastic is nauseating.

And besides, why does Black Friday not celebrate African American businesses?

I used to call Small Business Saturday White Business Saturday because it felt like it was a time when the emphasis was on patronizing boutique businesses to spend excessively on things people don’t need.

At least some of the time, businesses participating in Small Business Saturday are mom-and-pop operations. It’s meaningful places, like Daredevil Records, Power City Eatery, New Day Coffee or Confetti Cottage.

Giving Tuesday is today. It makes a better point than the consumption days.

Today, 40 high school students will be visiting Community Missions on Buffalo avenue to do volunteer work. That’s what matters. The event is being sponsored by Leadership Niagara.

Four restaurants will be donating a portion of their proceeds today as part of the celebration, including Anchor Bar, Parkway Prime, Rainforest Café, and Bella Vista Ristorante.
