“Sometimes the best moment on a football field is not the game.
As the third quarter came to an end between the NFJFC Cobras and the Williamsville Army, a player from the Army was injured. The player got up and walked to the sideline. As the next snap occurred, shouts to stop the game could be heard from the stands because the same player had ‘passed out’ on the sideline. It appears to be concussion-related.
“The Niagara Falls Fire Department and AMR would respond to the field for the player. From the other side of the field, I caught the glimpse of a thumbs up from the player as he was wheeled to the ambulance on a stretcher. It was a sight everyone wanted to see. It was a small sign that he was going to be alright.
“Coaches and officials would end the game early but what happened next was probably the best moment of the afternoon. Players and coaches from both teams huddled together in the middle of the field. After a brief discussion and a moment of silent prayer for their teammate and fellow football player, Dakota, the huddle broke with this chant.
“Coach- ‘Cobras, who loves you?’
“Cobras- ‘You do!’
“Coach- ‘Army, who loves you?’
“Army- ‘You do!’
“Coach- ‘Everyone, who loves you?’
“All players- ‘You do!’
“Coach- ‘Bring it in on Dakota’
“Coach- ‘1, 2, 3’
“All players- ‘Dakota!’ “
More importantly the parents of Gaskill students have not been directly engaged to discuss this matter and it's been almost a month now.
Moderate rain, with a high of 72 and low of 45 degrees. Light rain in the morning, partly cloudy in the afternoon, patchy rain nearby overnight.
Thanks for covering this event. Maybe next time I will send you a drone picture of all 200 of us, and you can then post that.
Does anyone know the proper process in Niagara Falls, NY for getting bulk trash or debris removed from a private yard? I’m trying to figure out who handles it and what steps residents are supposed to follow.
I would say organize a group of people to address the property you are concerned about and bring it to the curb on May 9, the annual Niagara Beautification Commission cleanup. Casella will pick it up.
