Main and Portage bollards are removed.
The bollards are gone at Main and Portage in advance of snowfall. The art installation makes that intersection easier to navigate but harder to plow.
The Niagara Falls National Heritage Area put in the art installation with funding from Bloomberg philanthropies. As someone who bikes that area daily, it makes a huge difference.
Leaf collection is here. Mulch or compost instead
Leaf collection time is here. Collection will be the same as every year. You can also bag leaves and put them out for collection. I do neither. Mulching, or composting are both better options for your lawn, garden and world.
I love music, flowers and nature. It’s like we are hippies, only we don’t smoke pot.
Lewiston Farmers and Artisan move indoors
Until the Niagara Falls City Market is reimagined with the speed of government (funding 2024, tiddly winks 2025 & 2026, construction 2027) we need different places to get real food from real people.
For my family, that means hitting the Lewiston Artisan Farmers Market every weekend or every other weekend in winter at the Presbyterian church.
About those arancini
At DiCamillo’s on Linwood, we snuck in one last gelato last week. That’s the bad news. No gelato or ice cream sandwiches until spring. The good news is soup as well as arancini in the freezer case. For $10 it is way better, and cheaper, than pizza.
Potatoes for Halloween
It was an idea I stole from my brother, put a potato in with the candy on Halloween. Beth thought I was nuts but hey, a kid took it. Two years ago we gave out two potatoes. We were up to a half dozen in 2025.
Last week, I forgot. A small child reminded me, rifling through the basket only to look up an say “no potato?” with a tone of disappointment. I went in the house, retrieved a half dozen Chippewas and they were gone by the end of the night. I am not sure why, but it is funny.
