CHASE AND CATCH: At 10:28 p.m. Thursday police were at 10th Street and Cedar Avenue on GIVE Patrol making sure Dollar Tree was secure when they recognized a 9th Street resident known to officers from prior encounters and for an active failure-to-appear warrant. Officer Joshua Salada stopped his car, approached the suspect and called him by name. The suspect turned and acknowledged the officer who asked him not to run. The suspect did not comply. The officer gave chase and warned the TASER would be coming if he didn’t stop running. The suspect, as he was caught, reached for something. After he was secured and in custody, the officer found a silver-colored switchblade style knife. Every bit of the interaction from initial contact to chase, struggle and confiscation of the knife was captured on the officer’s bodycam. The suspect was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, 3rd degree bail jumping, and resisting arrest. This is the second time in a week for the same scenario involving the same officer.
