19th AND PINE: A driver “flying doing 70” westbound on Pine Avenue near 19th Street at about 1:39 a.m. Thursday struck a pedestrian. Firefighters were first to respond and had the victim on a backboard as AMR rushed to the scene. The driver, a Royal Avenue resident, failed field sobriety tests and was charged with driving while intoxicated.
MINI-BIKE BUST: An officer on GIVE patrol in an unmarked car at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday observed a minibike being operated westerly on Walnut Avenue cutting through the Coastal Station and continuing on 19th Street without a helmet. The officer approached the rider when he stopped and hit the kill switch. He instructed the rider to walk the bike home. The rider said “I’m taking it but I ain’t gonna walk it.” The suspect refused to provide ID or get off the bike. The officer, with the help of a detective, removed the suspect, who was wearing an ankle monitor, from the bike. The suspect was eventually positively ID’d as a Pine Avenue resident. He also admitted he was on parole. Charges included aggravated unlicensed operation, operating an unregistered ATV, no helmet and unlawful operation on a public highway.
