NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — State and federal officials said they are making significant progress in the ongoing Niagara and Erie County radiological assessment.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Sunday said teams recently visited nearly 350 properties and obtained more than 110 new homeowner agreements to conduct radiation screenings.
During the visits, the DEC and EPA said they secured more than 110 new access agreements from homeowners, allowing crews to conduct radiation screening work on their properties.
The DEC and EPA said they are also working directly with homeowners to schedule soil sampling at locations where additional testing is needed.
They're also urging residents to who have any questions to call 518-712-8279, a dedicated phone line for the Niagara and Erie County Radiological Assessment.
"This phone line will be monitored daily, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. this weekend and on weekdays following," the DEC said in a statement, adding that "residents seeking to request a property assessment or submit a property access form can also do so via email at NECRA@dec.ny.gov."
